 “Faith”

Dear friends

I let you look at a new painting -”Faith” – I finished not long ago which will be on the site shortly.

A painting by the same name, was stolen from an exhibition I had in 2007 in Israel.

The taker did not know that no one can steal my faith.

Feel free to ask me anything about this painting.
I’m here for you,

With love
Anicca [pronounced Anitcha, or Anisha]

Heaven

Heaven

This was a commissioned work.  The gentleman who ordered the work, requested that I paint heaven.  Not an easy task, and certainly an endeavor which would need more than one picture plane to succeed.

I asked my friends what they thought heaven would be like, accepting that it exists.  I was not surprised to hear that most folks provided images, those things which made them happy or attracted them.  A few folks offered up an abstract image,  elements that their words and experiences could not suffice to enlighten or understand.

For the abstract I chose a symbol to float in the center of the work;  Ten Seferot is the central element to describing and understanding of the make-up of man.  A virtual ying-yang of human emotions, the body, the soul.  Whether it serves as the basis for healing the total being, or as a visual symbol of our condition.  In the painting it mingles with the “Tree of Life” surrounded by the awe inspiring beauty of nature, humans carrying on as humans do.

“Free Beer and Prizes”, “Infinity Shopping”, bars, food, cakes, shakes and rock bands.  A group of casually dressed folks barbecue.  A fisherman fishes, a child plays on the beach.  Polar bears, dolphins and deer take their places in the act of being.

I chose to depict Heaven, as a one size fits all, virtual ephemeral Wall-Mart of fun, repose and well being.  For heaven is meant to be a place where both the Id and ego dissolve.  Do we dissolve into energy, seeking another body to inhabit? I don’t know.  My goal was to depict heaven in visual terms which imply beauty, and the healing of the soul.

Floating Above the Flood

June 26th, 2009

Floating Above the Flood.

The mythical floating city, the impossible cities of ancient myth and popular writings, floats above a world drowning: For the great “mabul” or flood has arrived once again. Interestingly the word “mabul” is found in Genesis, but is not a hebrew nor semitic word, it is an ancient sound.
From Sanskrit writings, Native American oral sharings to the Torah, the story of reoccuring floods flows throughout our collective history. It washes away that which exists, allowing for new growth. It is not for me to judge whether it be a postive force of nature or not. As the painter I paint static images, the painting itself is void of future, that is left for the lover of colors and magic to decipher.
Sharing the same picture plane, the optimistic ethereal vision of a floating island, shares a sky with the tops of sky scrapers and concrete, steel and glass manifestations of man the builder. Like two shadows passing, they are seemingly unaware of each other, yet share a space, fondling time.

Introducing HADARA, Beauty of Women’s Prayer, by Enya Keshet

September 18th, 2008

A collection of twenty-eight prayers and tehinahs.
Blessings of the three mitzvot of women.
Prayers that concern the cycle of women’s life from birth to death.
Ornamented in the style of the fifteenth century Lisbon Judaica manuscripts.

“I chose to work in the style of the Lisbon Judaica manuscript workshop of the fifteenth century, for its beauty and for its traditional value. In my designs, I combine the Old School with my own inspiration, tending the old roots and growing a new tree out of them.” (Enya Keshet)
